Based on the premise that the working conditions of cultural professionals need a new legal framework to protect them from precariousness, on March 21 the Museum of Forbidden Art organized a debate entitled ‘What about the artist’s status?’.
To discuss the topic we had the participation of Alberto González Pulido (Intellectual property consultant, commercial law and compliance advisor and specialist in cultural law and freedom of expression), Carmen Páez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Anna Villaroya, graduate in Law and Economics from the University of Barcelona and PhD in Public Sector Economics, and co-author of the report on the working and living conditions of cultural professionals commissioned by the Fundació la Caixa, and singer and composer Gerard Quintana .
“Working for the love of art means being precarious. […] We cannot have worse conditions than other sectors, the emotional salary should not be a justification for maintaining precarious conditions”. With these words Carmen Páez, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, underlined the importance of an Artist’s Statute that guarantees decent conditions for the cultural sector.
